> what most liberal or left-wing critics call respect, the objectors see as politics.
The world over, this is how the left behaves. Their views are the “default,” any opposition is “politics.” They deny the fundamental duality of any political proposition. This is perhaps because liberalism is the ‘change’ impulse in politics. They are incapable of recognizing the conservative ‘preserve’ impulse in themselves. More noteworthy, however, is that holding the basic assumption that one’s own values are the default position is a habit of the hegemon, another thing the left is incapable of recognizing itself as.
After 65,000 years, surely there must be some really cool ancient sites and structures to view... Maybe some fascinating writing or historical artifacts? No? Just some bits of stone and trees with scratches on them? Cool cool. Very tired of this crap. Glad to hear that Qantas seems to have abandoned their welcome to country on landing.
In the US twenty years ago we were effectively post-race. But there is no money or advantage in politics if you let go of racialism. So it was brought back on steroids and everything is a mess.
Everywhere I look in the anglosphere it’s the same.
So, the only thing that can be done now is become tribal to defend ourselves from our ‘leaders’ and their minority minions.
Imagine this: you like activity A. When I was young I hung out with people racially like me who liked to do activity A. Everybody was that way.
By my thirties I did activity A with people of all sorts who also liked activity A.
We were friends because of our interests, not because of race.
After the re-introduction of race essentialism, it’s become almost impossible to escape the politics, so it’s almost impossible to engage with people of a different race on any level but professional.
Why bother? I already have a job that’s filled with frustration and stress, why would I want social interactions to be frustrating and stressful?
This is the division the leftist Labor government promotes. He's welcoming you to the country you (& your grandparents) built, protected & defended. And of course, doing it ironically, whilst implying you're anything but welcome (to mock Australians) 🇦🇺🇦🇺🌺🌺
The question remains if belonging. Its one they don't seek to answer. Either we belong here and we are entitled to our own cultural considerations and that the offence we feel about the WTC is no less in its validity or magnitude than they feel about its booing. Or we do not belong here. There is no middle ground to tread.
Maybe Australian veterans need to challenge the aboriginals with the reality that the European newcomers defended ‘their’ friggin’ country and here they are today, not genocided, not starved into oblivion, not bombarded daily with rockets and missiles, wearing modern clean clothing, having access to clean food and water, getting drivers licenses and cars, going travelling world-wide, just like anyone else who is FREE to do, on this planet - thanks to the men and women who fought to make it happen!
Check with the Chinese, Vietnamese, and Malaysians et al. about the tender mercies of Imperial Japan and ask who the Aborigines would have preferred to share with for the last 80 years.
And I thought we had it bad here in the states with “indigenous resistance,” wow. Like you said, it’s a purposeful disrespect to have it on the same day as ANZAC Day. It’s always deliberate, always a demoralization tactic. God bless Australia
It's fairly obvious by now that this sickness is spreading across the Western world; in particular, the Anglosphere. In Canada, where I live, recent legislation and court rulings have established an alleged "Aboriginal title", even to lands held privately (British Columbia currently has Aboriginal bands claiming over 100% of the territory), which supersedes fee simple ownership. The madness is clearly a result of international Leftists breathing the same fumes. I hope you're able to stop it before it's too late. Canada is done - a controlled demolition presided over by the political, educational and cultural 'elites'.
In many ways the old ways were far better and much more humane. Conquered lands were annexed by the new population and the former populations were wiped out or assimilated; as the former population had done to their predecessors. No land acknowledgement, no reservations, no pretending the world is other than it is.
I'm tired of the endless genuflecting to "traditional owners". Without the hard work and sacrifice of "the colonizers" they would still be running around in kangaroo loin cloths, living in bark humpies and throwing spears to catch dinner. They had 65,000 years to develop a more advanced culture and yet did not. I've had enough of the implication that somehow a primitive culture is morally superior.
Yes ma'am, indeed. The comment I was looking for. It's always the failed assumptions and presuppositions that fail left of center. The reason something about these movements from the left trips our instincts is because of their lies bout their goals. For the emptiness inside a real resentment fueled leftist is a canyon that'll never be full.
I've said it so many times but Ted Kaczynski's critique of leftist was spot on.
It was on Australia Day 1988 that the then Prime Minister of Australia, Bob Hawke, famously declared:
“We are - and essentially, we remain - a nation of immigrants - a nation drawn from 130 nationalities. In Australia there is no hierarchy of descent: there must be no privilege of origin.”
Maybe the members of the Labor Party never passed the memo on to the grievance activists – nearly all of whom it should be pointed out, can only claim mixed-race ancestry. Hypocrites all - dressed in Western apparel and posturing in fake indigenous paraphernalia, as they suck relentlessly on the teat that provides the material benefits of modernity that the hard work of the later waves of immigrants brought with them. This was a modernity that gave aboriginal Australians the opportunity to step up and join the rest of the human race, and which brought with it a rule of law to replace the original vicious tooth & claw existence and the cruelty it inflicted on women & children that prevailed in their clan-based micro-societies before 1788.
For the benefit of any member of the ABC who may be reading this, it is worth repeating once again the keywords of Mr Hawke’s statement -
“In Australia there is no hierarchy of descent: there must be no privilege of origin.”
RJ Hawke’s statement needs to be enshrined in law.
The boos are not the disruptions. It is the activist speeches that are the disruption.
They're not "welcoming us to country": given enough power, they would strip us of everything we own and hold dear.
100% it’s supremely disrespectful to be welcome to your own country especially on a day like Anzac Day

Again you're talking about liberals not the left
I will stop conflating liberals and the left when the two stop conflating themselves with one another.
Sure

It’s all very unfortunate.

SPLC being the prime example of perpetuating the grift.
Not physically post-race. Socially post-race.

Not all change is progress.
Thankyou for your wise overview.

Can anyone explain why Washington is decorated wi r h Australian flags to welcome HRH King Charles lll ?
And how well do the Aboriginals managed land when they control it -- about as well as US American Indians do. Its a waste giving in to their demands.
Norway
Wow!
It would seem I belong to a nation of ethnic cleansers, just like the progressives always claimed.
